Croydon currently have a range of schemes and services that can assist those experiencing fuel poverty. The council is currently working with Climate Energy to deliver the Coldbusters programme, which has limited funding for a range of energy efficiency measures for the elderly, vulnerable and those on low incomes. Warm Up Croydon can provide information on a range of issues including energy efficiency, housing options, social and health care, benefits and debt. They also have a small amount of funding to provide support in emergency situations, including for boiler repairs. The Croydon Staying Put scheme can also help older, disabled and vulnerable people who need advice and assistance to carry out repairs or adaptations to their homes; there is a handyperson scheme available too. Coldbusters scheme                   
The council is working with Climate Energy to deliver the Coldbusters programme.
Limited funding for energy efficiency measures to the elderly, vulnerable and those on low incomes.
Improvements that can be fully funded include:

  • Cavity wall insulation
  • Loft insulation
  • Replacement glazing
  • Draughtproofing

Croydon Staying Put Scheme                         
For older, disabled and other vulnerable people who need advice and assistance to carry out repairs or adaptations to their homes.
A scheme representative will:

  • Visit the home and assess the proposed repairs or adaptation
  • Discuss payment for the work, and provide help securing grants and loans to meet the cost
  • Arrange for the work specifications to be prepared
  • Organise trustworthy builders to do the work

Fees will be charged- between 10-15% of the final cost of the work.
Repairs/ adaptation work include:

  • Repairs to a leaking roof
  • Damp-proofing and rewiring
  • Loft and other insulation
  • Structural work

Handyperson scheme                          
Minor repairs and an odd jobs service at a reduced cost for those who are over 60 years of age or disabled.
The service covers:
Minor repairs (including easing windows, decorating)
Fixing tiles, floor boards, curtain rails etc
Jobs are normally restricted to those lasting up to two hours and costing less than £250
There is a labour charge of £25 per hour (pro rata), and the cost of the materials used.

Warm Up Croydon                     
Information on a range of issues including energy efficiency, housing options, social and health care, benefits and debt.
