Whats on offer in Havering?

Havering do not currently operate a dedicated fuel poverty scheme, but there are a range of services available in the borough that may be of use to those experiencing fuel poverty. Havering Circle is a membership based service available to anyone in Havering over the age of 50, they can provide help around the house and befriending, among other things. There is also a mobile support service operating in the borough and a Telecare service is available. Havering council is responsible for maintaining the properties they rent; loss of heating or hot water is not viewed as an emergency, but if a households member is put at risk due to age or illness they will try to arrange for the temporary loan of a heater. Council Home Repairs      
Havering council is responsible for maintaining the properties they rent.
They arrange to repair and keep in proper working order any installations within the home for heating, water heating and sanitation, and for the supply of water, gas and electricity.
Loss of heating or hot water is not viewed as an emergency, but if a household member is put at risk due to age or illness they will try to arrange for the temporary loan of an electric heater.

Havering Circle      
Circle is a membership based service open to anyone over the age of 50, supporting individuals and communities to lead the lives they want to lead.
Membership costs start at £20 per year.
Services include:
Help with gardening
Help with technology- e.g. using a mobile phone to send texts to contact friends and family
Help around the house- for odd jobs around the house like changing lightbulbs, moving furniture or putting up new blinds
Befriending
They also organise events, day trips, exercise classes etc. in and around Havering.

Eligibility conditions apply. Eligible people will be:
55 years old and above, living in one of the Council’s sheltered housing schemes OR
65 years and above, and a home owner, private, housing association or council tenant living in the Havering area

Anyone can have Telecare; costs start at £4.37 per week and there is no extra charge for equipment or installation.
