There is a range of services available in Richmond that may be of assistance to those experiencing difficulties as a result of fuel poverty.  The Coldbusters scheme can provide a locally funded grant for a range of energy efficiency measures, whilst Hampton Fuel Allotment Charity may be able to help local families with grants towards the cost of gas and electricity. Coldbusters scheme

A locally funded grant for homeowners and private tenants who are in receipt of means tested benefits or aged 60 or over and on a low income.

Measures available include:

  • Central heating
  • New boilers
  • Loft insulation
  • Cavity wall insulation
  • Heating improvements
  • Draught-proofing

Energy Smart Richmond upon Thames: Green Deal / ECO

Richmond Council’s scheme Energy Smart Richmond upon Thames provides residents with access to home energy savings advice, assessments, installations and funding through the Green Deal and Energy Companies Obligation (ECO).

Tenants must have the permission of their landlord and landlords must have permission of their tenant to undertake an assessment on the property.

Hampton Fuel Allotment Charity
This local charity may be able to help local families with grants towards the cost of gas and electricity.

Handyperson Service        
Run by Age UK Richmond, the handyperson service can help with a range of jobs, including:

  • Changing lightbulbs
  • Repairing curtain rails
  • Fitting draught proofing
  • Moving furniture
  • Installing telecare equipment

All materials are charged at cost price, except for donated materials, which are supplied free of charge.

The low level energy efficiency service provided by Age UK as part of the winter warmth home visiting scheme includes:

  • Draughtproofing, radiator reflector panels and other low cost energy efficiency measures
  • CO detectors
  • Cold sensor alarms/ room thermometers
  • Loft clearance for loft insulation
  • Radiator bleeding
  • Emergency heating

Home visitors (Thinking Works)    

For residents aged 65 and above, residents with a disability and those with long term conditions/illness. The home visitor can help with a range of things, including:

  • Assessment of property for energy efficiency
  • Advice on controls
  • Water saving devices
  • Referrals for grants
  • Referrals for low cost energy measures such as draught proofing

They will also carry an assessment based on health and wellbeing interventions.
