Emergency heating works
If a resident’s heating or hot water system has broken down, and they:
- Own their own property, or are a private tenant with full repairing responsibility;
- Are aged over 60 or have a child under 16 living with them;
- and receive one or more means tested benefits/ is on a low income
they may be eligible for help with the cost of repairs to their heating or hot water system.

Octavia Foundation: Outreach and befriending in Westminster
Available to older or vulnerable adults that live in the borough and are over the age of 50.
The outreach service work in partnership with other organisations in the community to provide older and vulnerable people with information and support.

Free handyperson for small repairs/ jobs around the home, inc:
- Replacing lightbulbs
- Repairing broken doors/ windows
- Re-hanging or adjusting doors
- Fixing loose carpet
Free benefit checks/ income maximisation, help with grant applications, advice on other available support
Can help with finding grants for improvements to insulation, provision of energy efficient heating systems and emergency support when heating systems fail
Some support is means tested- in the majority of cases no financial contribution is necessary.
