What’s on offer in Southwark?

There is a range of services available in Southwark that may be of assistance to those experiencing difficulties as a result of fuel poverty.  Southwark Benefits Advice Hub offer a free income maximisation and benefits service, and there is also a handyperson scheme, a small repairs service and befriending schemes available.   For a full list of the schemes operating in Southwark, alongside contact information and eligibility criteria, please see below.

Dulwich helpline
Dulwich helpline provides a befriending scheme to support older people when they leave hospital.

Handyperson scheme
Household maintenance and repairs for home owners, tenants and leaseholders who are aged 60+ or have a permanent disability.
The handyperson scheme is unable to assist tenants where the required work is the responsibility of the landlord.
There will be a charge for labour and materials; there is a reduced labour charge for those who are receiving a means tested benefit or are disabled.
Repairs include:

  • Hanging or taking down curtains
  • Changing light bulbs
  • Re-glazing small windows
  • Bleeding radiators
  • Fitting draught excluders

Small repairs scheme
For homeowners aged 60+ or those who have a permanent disability, who wish to carry out one-off repairs to their home.
There will be a small charge for the service.
Repairs include:

  • Minor repairs to roofs
  • Electrical works
  • Repairs to heating systems and boilers
