Hillingdon do not currently operate a dedicated fuel poverty scheme, but there is a range of services available in the borough that may be of use to those experiencing fuel poverty. The Hillingdon Warm and Cozy Scheme has funding to offer local households free insulation and boiler replacements; please see details and eligibility criteria below. Hillingdon operate a handyperson service, as does the local AgeUK team; Hillingdon Age UK also run a Helping Hand Service, which can help clients with a range of tasks including benefits access, form filling and shopping. Age UK Helping Hand Service
A floating support service for people aged 65+, living in the London Borough of Hillingdon.
The Helping Hand assistant can get shopping for the client, or escort them to the shops where appropriate.
Some minor housework duties can also be undertaken when time allows. Other duties include:
- Accessing benefits for clients
- Signposting to handyperson services, TelecareLine
- Help with form filling

Hillingdon have teamed up with the switching service energyhelpine to help residents switch their gas and electricity to a different tariff or supplier.

Handy person service
For those tenants u60 and in receipt of housing benefit and/or disability living allowance.
With the exception of the example below, the handy person service isn’t available to tenants who are over 60, because they are eligible for the Age UK Helping Hand Service.
Residents must pay the cost of any materials used, and there is a £10 voluntary contribution towards the cost of running the service.

The handyperson service can also help those tenants over 60 (and those with a disability that prevents them from doing so), by replacing the bulb in light fittings that require a tool to access them.
Vouchers can be exchanged for food parcels at various locations throughout the borough.

TeleCareline/ Hillingdon Community Alarm Service
Different levels of service available.
The service is free to:
- Residents aged 85 and over
- Residents meeting ‘substantial and critical’ Fair Access to Care criteria, subject to financial assessment
- Residents for six weeks who are receiving a reablement package from Hillingdon Council
The service is available to residents not eligible for a free service- weekly cost will vary from £1.13 to £12 depending on the level of service required.

Warm and Cozy scheme
London Borough of Hillingdon, in association with Dyson Energy Services has funding to offer households in the area free insulation and free boiler replacements.
There are two ways in which residents may be eligible:
- Free cavity and loft insulation available to those living in designated postcode areas
- Free boiler replacement, cavity wall and loft insulation available to households that are on certain benefits
Residents in older, solid wall properties without cavity walls may qualify for discounted solid wall insulation.
